InvesTT Trinidad and Tobago launches iloveTT diaspora project

iloveTT is a Diaspora engagement initiative of InvesTT, the Investment Promotion Agency (IPA) of Trinidad and Tobago (T&T) under the Ministry of Trade and Industry. In carrying out its mandate to attract foreign investment into the country, the agency recognized the enormous potential of the diaspora to contribute to economic and social development in various fields including sports, creative arts, venture capital, medicine, education and technology.

“This project establishes a platform for long-term connections and collaboration with the T&T diaspora and seeks to create a vibrant and engaged community,” says Christopher Lewis, President InvesTT. “It’s where ideas and information will be shared between national economic developers and the Diaspora in the hope of forming partnerships to achieve the country’s developmental goals.”

At the foundation of the project is the compilation of a comprehensive database of T&T Diaspora located all around the globe. Persons who fall into this category are encouraged to participate in a survey (https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/FSD8KMY) which will assist InvesTT to begin establishing connections that will develop the project.

Discussions on current events, investment opportunities and social programmes as well as country data reports, achievements and useful business guidelines will be accessible to all followers of the iloveTT
social networks - Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Instagram.

InvesTT, notably a small agency of just about twenty employees, was established in 2012 to attract, facilitate and retain investment in Trinidad and Tobago. In its short history, the IPA has already made huge strides in attracting FDI to the country’s non-energy sectors and was commended in 2017 for its expansion and reinvestment strategy, by fDi Intelligence – a service from the Financial Times. It has also received several accolades (2015 and 2017) from the Site Selection magazine, the official publication of the Industrial Asset Management Council (IAMC).

InvesTT targets both local and foreign investment and proactively identifies business opportunities for prospective investors including those within the T&T Diaspora community. Sectors earmarked for investment include Manufacturing, ICT enabled services, BPO, Agribusiness, Creative Industries and Tourism. The agency provides facilitation services to assist its clients throughout their decision-making
process from beginning to end and offers aftercare services to investors once they’ve established a business in T&T.
